It needs strong and direct sunlight, just a little bit of shade - and it's off. Even in the mornings, when the sun is low above the horizon - it won't have enough power to pump. Probably if the size of the base was a bit bigger, and fitting bigger solar panels - the design would've been better. But overall - cute device. Somewhat entertaining and creates a cosy atmosphere :)
Thae packaging was great. It even had instructions in English. It only works when there is sun and it has to be all in the sun. If part of it is in the sun it does not work You can not enjoy it in the afternoon. Looks good but very disappointing.
